I can't believe that I am going on 2 weeks of being here. The time is going by way too fast!

Today was a great day :-) I spent half of the day at the shelter I'm working at (which is for girls and young women who are victims of all forms of abuse), teaching about hand washing and tracing the outline of the girls hands and putting glitter and other fun things on the hand drawings. The other half of the day was spent at another volunteers house working on re-writing job descriptions, etc for CCPCR (Cambodia's Center for the Protection of Children's Rights), which is the NGO that I am working for. I also had a great dinner and the most delicious vanilla tea that I have ever had!

I have been in Cambodia for 12 days now and I feel so content. The flight was not near as bad as I thought it was going to be and I have fallen in love with Korean Airlines. Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, I was blown away by the humidity; coming from Las Cruces, I have forgotten what rain is and definitely humidity. While riding in a tuk-tuk to my now home away from home, I was surprised at the amount of people out and about at midnight and taken back by the massive amounts of trash on the streets. The most exciting event of my first night in Cambodia was the baby mouse that crawled into my bed with my eyes as wide as plates and my body frozen, however I have grown use to and a tad bit fawn of the mice I share my room with now!
I went to Sihanoukville and spent last weekend on Serendipity Beach, which is about 3.5 hours away from Phnom Penh in a taxi van and around 5 hours in a bus. I had a very relaxing, fun time and got a little too much sun. For the first time I also had my eyebrows and legs threaded on the beach. The selling point was that I was told that my hair wouldn't grow back for at least 2 months, as I lay here and laugh 3 days later because I already need to shave my legs and pluck my eyebrows!
